Summary
QB/DB: It was definitely targeting according to the rule, but wasn’t malicious on his part.
It was definitely targeting according to the rule, but wasn’t malicious on his part. How are you as a defender, supposed to anticipate a bad pass that forces the receiver to contort his body 180 degrees in the opposite direction? It’s just an unfortunate factor of today’s game. If the ball is somewhat on target and the receiver doesn’t have to turn back for it then Taylor’s helmet and shoulder hits him square in the back and it’s not an issue. Thankfully they fixed the rule. Imagine having to sit for a full half because the QB threw a hospital ball lol. I get the player safety thing and certainly think something had to be done about safeties coming down to take peoples heads off, but I wish there was more nuance to it. The offense shouldn’t just continue to get rewarded for things like poorly thrown balls and late slides.
