Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb sent a message Monday to Tide fans that he heard booing the offense early in Saturday's 50-36 win over Florida State.
"I was proud of the guys," Grubb said. "They just didn't have any quit. They're a really resilient group. I'm super proud of that. We had, I would say -- I had some boo birds. I told the guys. I said, 'Shoot guys, if you would have quit as fast as some of your fans, shit, we wouldn't have won that game.'
"So I was proud of them for a bunch of 19-year old to go out there and just, 21-6, and not flinch. I was fired up."
Alabama went three-and-out on its first two possessions to begin the game, then scored on its next nine possessions.
"You want 12 scores in a row, but they didn't do that," Grubb said. "The first two drives, we had two punts and to be quite honest, we weren't as far as off as everybody thinks.
Said Grubb on an EJ Crowell run for a loss of one yard on third-and-3 to end the first possession: "Our first third down, I think it was third-and-3, we just barely slide out of a down-block on a zero. And honestly we would have had a big crease there had we accomplished that."
And Grubb on a 7-yard completion on third-and-9 on the second drive: "Then our third down on the next series, [wide receiver] Lottie [Brooks] doesn't quite run out of the break the way [quarterback] Keelon [Russell] thought he was going to. There was a ton of space on the sideline open there. We end up about a yard short on that one.
"After that, they went on nine straight scoring drives."
