Summary
Pick/market: This game was Derrick Rodgers' coming out game.
This game was Derrick Rodgers' coming out game. He ate their OTs that evening.
Also, there was another, mostly undiscussed play that was extremely important at the time when the score was probably 12-0. Damon Benning was their RB on that play which turned out to be a fake reverse. Our staff must have been warning the D to look for a reverse and about nine of the D bit on the fake with only our DE or OLB and Marcus Soward staying home. Our DE/OLB was blocked out of the play, leaving Soward to stop the fastest guy on the field from scoring a TD, which would have made the game 12-7. Soward didn't try to tackle Benning--just kept retreating, keeping Benning in front of him until the cavalry arrived, and turning what might have been a momentum changing TD into a chunk play. And since they never scored on that drive, I have always thought that it was one of the half dozen or so plays that determined the outcome of one of our biggest wins.
