In terms of blocking, he's done a lot better than fans give him credit for. Pro Football Sports Network (That Cam Mellor's stuff, he's been on BYUtv a bunch) has Gentry as the second best BYU OL so far this year, only behind Finau. In pass protection, Gentry is graded out as the highest on the team. PFSN's grade don't factor penalties into the total grade. Pro Football Focus does, and when you include those penalties, PFF puts Gentry as 4th of 5 BYU starting OL. So the question becomes this: Is it easier for a senior to clean up penalties or to break in a true freshman on the fly in conference play? Gentry has to get those penalties cleaned up as they are absolute killers. But if you remove the penalties, he has played reasonably well through three games.
