I shouldn’t let it bother me, I usually don’t, and I really need to ignore the extreme stuff on social media. Sports used to be about watching your team, going through the ups and downs with your team, discussing the good and the bad, and when it’s really good — as it is right now at Indiana — riding the wave of incredible enjoyment. But now, some folks seem like they are in a race to say the most extremely negative thing possible, or say the highest volume of negative things. There were a few people in chat saying things like: “I”m calling it right now. This Indiana team will not win the national championship!” What the heck does that accomplish? There are 138 FBS teams, so that’s gonna be true for more than 99 percent of college football teams. In college football, you can have a fantastic season and not win the national championship. Every team in the country has good and bad right now. That’s college football. Actually, that’s sports. To crap all over a program that is coming off a 16-0 national championship in which it never trailed in the playoffs, is 3-0 right now, is top-5 in the country, and has won 19 in a row — that seems insane.
