Explosive play counts
Summary
Pick/market: Digging in a little deeper.
Digging in a little deeper. So all coaches define explosive plays differently. Explosive rush plays are typically in the 10-12 yard range and explosive pass plays are in the 15-20 yard range. Coach Riley I remember telling me his 'explosive' plays were 20+ yards, so that is what I went with originally. Coaches like to aim for 2 explosive plays per drive as analytics have shown that drives that have 2 or more explosive plays have a substantially higher chance of scoring a TD (60-70%) I updated my run metrics to base the count on the following: Run plays of 10+ yards and Pass plays of 17+ yards (took a middle number between 15 & 20). One thing we can look at is the explosive play margin of the explosive plays and yardage gained - the explosive plays and yardage gained by the opponents. According to one source, analytics have shown the team that wins the explosive play margin, will win the game over 85% of the time. Looking at the new metrics and margin: Game OSU explosive plays Opponent explosive plays OSU yards Opponent yards Houston 7 13 213 345 Texas Tech 12 6 318 131 Montana 11 6 268 107 Total 30 25 799 583 Team Explosive passes Explosive rushes Total Oregon State 25 5 30 Opponents 12 13 25
