Last year's talent was not good to say the least... It cost the team at least 3 of the 4 games it lost.. The performance in the bowl game was embarrassing.. The linebackers never stood out. The D line was constantly pushed around.. Before Patterson was hired I was looking a 6 and 6 or 5 and 7 season. Riley's biggest failure during his tenure was putting terrible defensive teams on the field.. I am hopeful that things turn around, but those returning defensive players from last year relative to the quality of teams in the Big 10 does not give me any confidence.. The ace in the hole is that Patterson can actually produce at least an average defense..
