Rather than breaking down the Pro Football Focus grades for Oklahoma State's starters in the 59-0 win over Murray State on Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium, we'll take a look further down the depth chart. Basically, if a player is a starter or frequently-used backup — though that's not a definitive line — he will not be included in the information below. This is to get a better idea of who among backups played well, or played most frequently, to shine a light on the depth behind the primary players. Top offensive grades among backups (snap count) 83.7: RB KD Jones (11) 75.6: RB William Mason Jr. (8) 73.8: QB Brodie Vehrs (32) 70.3: OT Ja'Qwon Evans (25) 68.2: C Jakobe Sanders (14) The take: The offense played 74 total snaps with the first-teamers getting 42. Jones had the third-highest grade overall, only behind Drew Mestemaker (93.1) and Justin Bowick (92.3). Both Jones and Mason were productive in their rushing opportunities. Vehrs was the first and only option behind Mestemaker, which seems to seal the QB2 discussion. And he looked sharp throughout his appearance. Both Evans and Sanders graded 74 or higher in pass blocking. Top offensive snap counts among backups 32: QB Brodie Vehrs, WR Israel Polk 25: OT Ja'Qwon Evans, OG Louie Canepa, WR Kam Powell 20: OT Miguel Chavez 16: WR Jabarie Thornton, OG Eli Holbrook The take: With some other outside receivers injured, either Polk or Powell could start to factor into more action when a guy like Bowick needs a breather. Neither Rodney Harris II nor Dayvon Standard suited up Saturday. Because of injuries at offensive tackle, Evans isn't all that far down the depth chart.  Top defensive grades among backups (snap count) 83.1: DE DJ Jackson Jr. (11) 76.2: LB Jack Puckett (5) 71.8: DT Savion Barthelemy (7) 71.6: S Markeith Williams (15) 69.8: DE Billy Walton III (14) The take: Williams led the team with five tackles. Jackson had seven pass rush snaps and was credited with two hits on the QB and two hurries. Puckett had the batted pass that was intercepted by Malik Charles. Barthelemy, who is clearly bigger than his listed weight of 283 pounds, is a player Morris has been talking up as a potential freshman contributor. In all, 36 defensive players saw the field. Top defensive snap counts among backups 18: CB Kobi Foreman, CB Trudell Berry 15: S Markeith Williams 14: DE Billy Walton III, S Cameron Epps 13: NB Vincent Holmes 12: LB Trip White The take: This group is mostly guys who are right on the verge of more regular usage, so it makes sense they got extended opportunities. Overall, only Quinton Hammonds played more than 25 of the 41 defensive snaps. Either Foreman or Berry could fight their way into the cornerback rotation, which has primarily been limited to LaDainian Fields, Mo Horn and Kollin Lewis. Williams generated some buzz in camp and showed some physicality that could be valuable down the line.
