Weaver
Summary
Pick/market: Stick with Weaver.
11Spartacuz said... (original post) I’m not going to really touch the whole Stutz situation except to say it’s a waste of time with the replace Stutz and get someone else to run o... show more Stick with Weaver. He just had a bad game. He did well against SC in the second half against their 2nd and 3rd string players. He played well against Cal Poly with 238 yards passing and 3 TDs. The O-line did well in the second half at SC and the entire game versus Cal Poly, both in run and pass blocking. It's just Fresno finally got their act together. They weren't the same old mess, most of us saw, versus USC, getting shut out 39-0. Their DC had a good game plan. They wanted to stop the run and confuse the QB in what his saw from the D. Fresno did something I never seen them do before. On a obvious passing down, the D-line was stacked, looked they were going for an all out blitz. They had more than usual number of guys lined up to appear that was going to happen. But, just before the snap, two guys who were on the line, dropped back into pass coverage, covering the middle of the field. Corners were covering the edges and they had two high safeties. Looked like an umbrella coverage from the DBs and the two guys who dropped off from the LOS to cover the middle of the field. That could have had something to do with Weaver getting confused at what he was seeing, making it look like where to go with the ball. The pass rush did their job in trying to penetrate the O-line to force Weaver to make a snap decision on where to go. Those things happen so fast, you don't have time to make a good decision. Fresno didn't show this ploy against SC on obvious passing downs or against Sac St. So, there was no game film to prepare against it. Thus, the game film Weaver was reviewing didn't show this element. FS DC added this to confuse the QB and it worked well a number of times.. Now if other opponents on our schedule see it, they may also try to employ this. But, with the game film on what FS did, the O staff can now counter, if others on our schedule to try to do this, as well. Therefore, our O should be ready for it and know how to attack it when it happens. It will be cat and mouse. Sometimes the D will prevail and sometimes the O will burn them when they try it. It's a gamble for both sides. Both sides will hope they guess right and not get burned.
