In his Monday scouting of Texas before Tennessee's conference opener, Josh Heupel credited the Longhorns' front, gap integrity and physicality at the point of attack with limiting explosive runs. He said all three defensive levels are fitting together; this is an opponent's assessment of current execution, not an announced new front.

Heupel described Texas' pass defense as a combination of zone principles, match principles and varied pressures. He said its personnel allows flexibility in coverage and rotations, and Tennessee must be ready to adjust to looks not yet on film; he did not identify a specific newly installed pressure package.
