What the Analytics Say About Utah's New-Look Roster
Summary
Injury: Especially since it's hard to get the guys with usable numbers to lineup evenly between in vs.
Nice job! Especially since it's hard to get the guys with usable numbers to lineup evenly between in vs. out when looking at where they likely slot in on the depth chart.
E.g, PG1 is more likely Yaacov vs. TB - based on the efficiency numbers Yaacov put up in BNXT and what he just did at the GL combine showing he can handle the physicality, probably a net improvement.
PG2 of Burch vs. Choppa is no doubt a massive net improvement per the BPM numbers and just common sense/eye test.
SG - nailed it with Don vs. Taison. Patrick vs. Langarita is tough given small sample size, but probably a minor net improvement given more on-ball upside from Lucas.
SF - nailed it with Holcombe vs. Seydou. Howard vs. Johnson probably an upgrade because each has unique tools they bring to the wing spot but Johnson doesn't bring the baggage Howard did.
PF - we'll have to see, Anigbata is probably an initial skill downgrade from Dawes with potential to be a better system fit given his shooting, and Loubaki is an upgrade over Sanders coming in given the better tools and fewer questions.
C - Gomma vs. Okonkwo probably isn't the right comp because last year James was viewed as C2 behind Faye, and right now Gomma is probably more in that C3/Ibi area. Baba vs. himself is an interesting debate of a year with Jensen but more time away from playing and another injury. Schott vs. Okonkwo as C2 probably weighs in favor of Schott given the more well rounded offensive skillset he's shown overseas, and Gomma vs. Ibi is hands down an upgrade.
