A&M defended those gaps with 6 guys in the box, maybe a 7th guy. You're always getting a double team somewhere.
Not only that, A&M is more or less running exchanges with the LBs/DTs in the middle...the DTs are crossing faces to another gap and the LBs are supposed to fill in the gap they're crossing from.
I don't think it's one gap or two gap. I think it's Vic Fangio...one and a half gap where you've got a primary gap and then a secondary gap that will allow the LBs to play downhill to come free behind the DTs. This is the unblocked, TFL aspect, not the blitzing, that you're missing out on.
That's one of the reasons A&M's DLs play high...you're supposed to keep your head high so you can follow the ball and see where you are you supposed to go. Your run fits can be problematic because everyone is changing gaps on the fly. That was one of the reasons 21 was such an issue, I'm not sure 27 was much better, and 0 is having to teach the class because the old 21 is no longer available to do so.
Fangio's defenses have this issue vs the run.
These are items you see when you watch football on Sundays.
