A couple of my thoughts on football
Summary
OL/LB: Glass half empty: Defense looks bad at times, tackling has been inconsistent, receivers have been inconsistent, offensive line constantly penalized, gaps aren't being consistently opened for running backs.
Glass half empty: Defense looks bad at times, tackling has been inconsistent, receivers have been inconsistent, offensive line constantly penalized, gaps aren't being consistently opened for running backs. Play calling and rotations at times have been questionable. Glass half full: Teams will dare us to pass until we can burn them, and Curtis did so in the 2nd half on Saturday, Sherrell bounced back and Thomas and Adams should be much better with health; getting Spence back will help both receiving and blocking; Defense with all of its issues have created TO's at a much higher rate so far. I tend to also fall on the Glass half full side. Curtis is showing that he can win games. He can also lose them, but his arm is going to have the effect of making our receivers better, and that room has played with one had behind their back so far this season. If teams cannot consistently have 8 in the box our running game will start to look better. One would also think that tighter, more consistent rotations with lower temperatures will help alleviate the penalties which have resulted in a high percentage of 2nd and 3rd and long scenarios. 100% could be wishful thinking on my part. I and everyone else here have seen really bad and undertalented Vanderbilt football teams. This just doesn't feel like one of them. At some point we are what we are and I'd like to see us play something close to an A or B game, but most would agree that we are not playing as well as we expected this season.
