Vanderbilt caused that last play to happen
Summary
DB: the problem was Bailey was apparently told to run out the clock (or that's how he interpreted it).

Punt it from the 20 yard and VU has to fair catch it. 30 yard kick wo... show more Right, the problem was Bailey was apparently told to run out the clock (or that's how he interpreted it). The problem was there was too much time left on the clock to avoid getting hit. If you really want to drain a couple more seconds, he could have stood at the back of the end zone and then stepped out if anyone got close. But that's not even necessary because after the safety kick there would have been time for only one more play regardless of whether it was 3 seconds or 1 second left.
