The Morning Pitt's review counted five conversions on 10 third- or fourth-down plays needing one or two yards through Pitt's first three games of 2026. On third- or fourth-and-one, Pitt was two of six, including zero of three on third-and-one. These are the analyst's current-season counts, not a newly announced under-center package.

The supplied Morning Pitt analysis cited PFF snap counts through three 2026 games: Nick James had 145 defensive snaps, Sean FitzSimmons 125 and Jeremiah Warren 39. Those counts quantify the starting defensive tackles' heavier usage; the analyst's depth concern does not establish an injury, a new rotation or a promised reserve workload.
