I don't disagree that he would've been one of the most sought-after players in the portal, the kid was just oozing with potential. It was clear that with any good coaching you had a superstar on your hands. But to say that he had produced at an elite level is an overstatement. I'm not saying he was bad, but he was below average in literally every single offensive statistic other than power production last season. He was bottom 30 in the SEC amongst qualified batters in average. Bottom 13 in strikeouts amongst qualified batters Had the 2nd lowest number of BBs amongst qualified batters Had the 2nd worst OBP amongst qualified batters His OPS was bottom 30 amongst qualified batters Even his best statistical area (power measured by SLG) he was in the 63rd percentile in the SEC. And that's just his overall numbers. His in-conference numbers were even worse. 12th lowest average in SEC play amongst qualified batters 2nd most Ks in SEC play amongst qualified batters 3rd lowest BBs in SEC play (well... not all of his numbers got worse, I guess) amongst qualified batters Lowest OBP in SEC play amongst qualified batters 10th worst OPS in SEC play amongst qualified batters SLG was in the 35th percentile in conference play.
