Saturday Slate - UT vs UT edition
Summary
Pick/market: Ok boys, our anniversary is behind us and we had a great celebration.
Ok boys, our anniversary is behind us and we had a great celebration. Now we are finally full-steam ahead into the heart of the college football calendar and we’ve officially hit conference play. Not only that, but this weekend is absolutely loaded with massive matchups. The marquee game of the weekend for us is of course UT vs UT, but there are some really big games to watch in the afternoon/evening after our morning game. As always, the team I bold is the team I think COVERS, not necessarily who will win straight up. Let me know your thoughts and where my picks are wrong! Friday Night Northwestern at #5 Indiana — Line: Indiana -21, O/U 49.5 | 7:00 PM CT - Is Indiana destined to be a long term power house yet or do they struggle against the lesser teams like Northwestern? I lean toward the former. Saturday Morning Slate 11:00 am #1 Texas at #14 Tennessee — Line: Texas -4.5, O/U 55.5 - I do think we win but if I were a betting man, I'd take the other UT. This is going to be awesome and even though I agree it's better for us that it's an 11 am kick, I sort of wish this was a night game. I think we win a close one. Illinois at #7 Ohio State — Line: Ohio State -27.5, O/U 54.5 - I believe tOSU rolls in almost every game this year, so this one is an easy pick for me. tOST by 30. Wake Forest at #16 Louisville — Line: Louisville -12.5, O/U 58.5 - If anyone thought Louisville was a pretender going into the season, they might want to watch this one. Wake held up nicely against Miami last week, what will they do against a really good Louisville team? Sam Houston at #11 Texas Tech — Line: Texas Tech -34.5, O/U 55.5 - Many think Tech should have lost last week, but Sam Houston is not a very good team. At first glance I thought this would be an easy cover for Tech, but I'm not convinced that their offense is good enough to beat anyone by 35 yet so I'm taking the dog to cover (barely). 2:00 pm Central Arkansas at Florida State — Line: FSU -44.5, O/U 59.5 - I don't really watch games like this unless a mid game highlight forcing me to tune in. But is anyone else surprised that FSU is laying 44.5? I don't care who they are playing, I am not sure FSU can score that many point so I'll take the (awful) dog in what will be a blow out. 2:30 pm Oklahoma at #2 Georgia — Line: Georgia -14, O/U 44.5 - Massive SEC showdown in Athens. Georgia at home is always tough, but two touchdowns feels a bit high for the Sooners coming off a shaky week so I'm going to take a Georgia win but an OU cover. #4 Ole Miss at #21 Florida — Line: FLA -3.5, O/U 58.5 - I know SEC schedules are tough, but playing at Florida the week after a Lane Kiffin fueled grudge match is a lot. Trinidad is the real deal, there's no doubt about that now, but Ole Miss is on full upset alert by laying 3.5 to Florida. That line seems a little crazy to me but that makes me want to double down on Florida to both win and cover. This should be the most entertaining game of the weekend. #15 Utah at Iowa State — Line: Utah -8.5, O/U 48.5 - Poor Iowa St, they will never be good again after letting Campbell leave for PSU. #17 Iowa at #18 Michigan — Line: Michigan -5.5, O/U 38.5 - I'm taking Iowa and the points in this one. Michigan (like OU) can't move the football without a QB run game. They might score enough to win, but I don't think they cover. 3:30 pm Wisconsin at #13 Penn State — Line: Penn State -10, O/U 44.5 - PSU has played exactly no one so far this year, but is Wisconsin anyone either? Nah. PSU rolls at home. Central Michigan at #6 Miami — Line: Miami -41.5, O/U 53.5 - If I were Miami, I'd be a little pissy about how last week's game goes and Central Michigan ain't no Western Michigan. Miami is going to rack up the points big time with a 50 point win Saturday. 6:00 pm and after South Carolina at #8 Alabama — Line: Alabama -12.5, O/U 53.5 - This game is intriguing to me. South Carolina blew out the two nobody's the played to open the season, but they looked pretty good against an up and coming MSU last week. I think Bama wins, but I think USC keeps it close enough to cover. I will definitely watch this one. #23 Texas A&M at #10 LSU — Line: LSU -8.5, O/U 51.5 - This one is easy for me and if you are a betting man, I would make LSU your biggest play of the week. If you think Lane isn't planning to take aggy behind the woodshed... Marcel Reed is the worst pocket passer in the SEC and he's even worse when he gets pressured. I think LSU makes aggy look like Clemson in week one and 8.5 points is no where near enough. #20 Oregon at #12 USC — Line: Oregon -3, O/U 62.5 - I'm really interested in watching this game. Oregon apparently isn't who we thought they were USC has maybe been the biggest surprise disappointment so far this season. They had a shut out against Fresno St., but they gave up 26, 30, and 35 to San Jose St, Louisiana and Rutgers. That makes me think Oregon is going to score 50 so I'll lay those 3 points. Either way, this game will probably have about 7 lead changes and should be a fun watch. #19 Missouri at #24 Mississippi State — Line: Mississippi State -6, O/U 58.5 - I was impressed with MSU and I haven't really watched Mizz yet. Still, I almost always take the home team in games like this early in the season. Missouri State at #22 SMU — Line: SMU -34.5, O/U 59.5 - It's easy to pick SMU to win, but I'm a little uneasy about giving away this many points. Still, they are looking for statement wins so I think they keep their foot on the gas all game.
