Five Rutgers players we want to see more of against Howard
Summary
Injury: Bobby, with all my non football experience!, think the defense should play GNAGO at both defensive end positions, give him the full game to get as many reps as possible.
Bobby, with all my non football experience!, think the defense should play GNAGO at both defensive end positions, give him the full game to get as many reps as possible. And maybe mix in Callaway, get that young player reps as well! Objectively, GNAGO has flashed in the past season, give him more snaps to continue his development. Also, not sure what is happening with Johnson, but play him as well! He is very young, but why not play him now?, when we are getting very little pass rush from Davis, Burnett, and Kromah? Again, develop this player with actual game reps! As to Vigna, play him primarily at left guard, with Small at left tackle, and see how that combination works throughout the game? Or try a different combination with Vigna. And, this may be a stretch, how about getting Chin back in the mix, either at left tackle or left guard, maybe with Vigna? Chin showed great progress last year, and is too athletic, with size, to not be utilized as a starter? This is one specific aspect I do not understand with Turner’s coaching, unless Chin is still not 100% healthy from last year’s injury? Agree 100% on Anderson (he looked like he could stay on the field with the USC receivers) and Thevenin, play both for the majority of snaps! Thevenin’s touchdown run showed he has the skill, talent, to make the quick cut, balance, and acceleration to get to the open apace, all in that one run. Give him opportunities in the Howard game, as it it keeps Raymond fresher for the remainder of the season! We need Raymond, healthy and fresh, if Rutgers wants to climb back into bowl eligibility! However slim that possibility. At be, Plus, two guys you did not mention, BUT it is time to play Archie and McClary at the linebacker spots! Alternate both in and out! We already know what Morris and Allison play like, this Howard game should be used as a learning experience for the young linebackers, including Deloatch. Those 3 players are either your FUTURE core at the linebacker positions, or not! Time to start developing them with actual game reps!
