The Fresno State Bulldogs have back-to-back wins and now aim for another. Up next, the 'Dogs host the Rice Owls. BarkBoard.com takes a closer look at this week's opponent.
After a brief run as WAC conference-mates, the Bulldogs are hosting Rice for the first time since 2003. The two teams have not met since the 2014 Hawaii Bowl. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT with a national television broadcast on The CW.
"Excited about the home game," Fresno State head coach Matt Entz said. "Opportunity for the Red Wave to impact the game. I'm looking forward to seeing a huge crowd, hopefully an excited and energetic crowd."
Rice enters the game with 1-2 record, most recently falling 28-21 to Western Michigan. The Owls operate with a triple-option offense.
Entz said, "It is a 180 degree change in mentality from what we saw last week. You're talking about run-and-shoot, and now all of a sudden you're talking about triple option. A little more assignment-driven, gotta be great with your eyes. Their quarterback does a tremendous job of running the offense. He has 50-plus carries on the year. They do a great job of dispersing the ball. They are a run-first program."
