What I was wrong about and what I was right
Summary
Injury: Well, we are already through 25% of the season, albeit the easiest 3 game stretch we will play.
Well, we are already through 25% of the season, albeit the easiest 3 game stretch we will play. This seemed like the longest offseason I can remember in a lot of years but the season is now flying by. There were a lot of changes to the staff and roster after the beatdown in the Rose Bowl. Most of them I was dubious about but so far they appear to be big steps in the right direction. The biggest change to the coaching staff was the firing of Kap and the hiring of Klemm. I thought the firing of Kap was about a year overdue but a step in the right direction. However, I was less than impressed with his replacement, Klemm. I’ve always looked at a coaches last 3 years as the biggest indicator of their future success and Klemm’s resume was less than impressive over this period. As things stand right now, I was wrong, REALLY wrong. Yes, it’s very early in the season but he appears to be doing a much better job getting the line playing as a unit. When they reported during the Spring that Daniel Hill had lost about 8-10 pounds and looked to be more explosive, I wondered aloud, repeatedly, how losing a few pounds could improve his foot speed and burst but I’ve really been impressed with DH. He has really worked on his game. He gets to the hole much faster, it seems, and still runs with authority in the RZ. Of course we will start seeing much better defenses starting with USCe but between DH, EJ and TB, I really think we are in a good place at RB. One of the things I was right about, is that KR12 would be QB1 on day one. Many disagreed but I just kept looking at his his learning arc from his junior year of HS all the way through 2026 Aday and I just had that feeling. I said he would have growing pains and would make plenty of RF mistakes but I also felt like he would get better with every series in every game. Many said it would/should be Mack as QB1. Many were pretty adamant that KR should be pullled during the slow start of the FSU game but I knew that was one thing that KD wasn’t doing. He picks his QB and that’s it. It would taje something like a drastic injury or really, really bad play over several games before he would replace him but thankfully starting in the 2nd quarter you could see the game start slowing down for him. I think we have a future AA at QB and not since Bryce have we had this kind of playmaker at QB, imo. So…so far, so good. I’ve been wrong about a lot and right about a little. To be continued-
