Nebraska coach Matt Rhule said freshman RB Jamal Rule has been trusted on third down because he knows his pass-protection assignment and has held up physically, a role beyond simply carrying the ball. Rhule said the staff had intentionally limited Rule's early workload. Neither comment names him the exclusive lead back or promises a fixed snap count at Michigan State.

Through three 2026 games, Nebraska's Jamal Rule had 329 rushing yards on 38 carries, 82 receiving yards and six total touchdowns. The Sept. 25 feature also lists Mekhi Nelson at 272 yards on 32 touches and Isaiah Mozee at 156 on 26; Dana Holgorsen emphasized having all three available, not a newly announced single-back workload or confirmed two-back package.
