RURF84 said... (original post) Good news for the FB game. How’s the rest of the weekend looking show more With RU football sucking so much, thus far, my motivation to post weather stuff here (or anything) is at a low, but since you asked, I just made the post below a little while ago. FYI, the NWS upgraded the predicted strength of this nor'easter just a bit, as the storm is now expected to head a bit further NW towards the NJ coast/NYC by late Saturday, bringing a bit stronger winds, rains and coastal flooding along with it; an updated coastal flooding map and an updated area-wide max gust wind map are below (these are the two most dangerous impacts for this storm). As an aside the model consensus now looks a lot like what the Euro model has been showing for days, so score a big win for the best model out there. Specifically, rainfall amounts were generally increased about 0.5" across the board with 1-to 2 inches of rain expected a bit NW of 95 (and for DelMarVa), 2-4 inches near/along the I-95 corridor, and as much as 3-5 inches over much of coastal NJ. As per my earlier post, this will be over 48+ hours, so significant urban and stream flooding is not expected, but could occur in a few locations. With regard to winds, they were bumped up a little bit, too, with max gusts of 30-40 mph a bit NW of 95, 40-45 mph near/along the 95 corridor, and 45-55 mph (and maybe up to 60 mph in spots) near/at the coast (DE, NJ and NY); in addition, wind gusts could be as high as 60-70 mph for Long Island, with the highest gusts towards the east end. There will likely be isolated trees down and power outages near/along 95 and more numerous scattered trees down and power outages towards the coast. Lastly, the coastal flood risk has been upgraded a bit too, with a coastal flood warning up for "moderate to major" flooding for the entire DE/NJ/NY ocean-facing coasts and back bays, meaning generally inundation of about 2-3' above normally dry ground (was 1-2' predicted earlier today). Keep in mind that this does represent a significant flooding risk for roadways and some structures in low-lying areas, but this level of flooding is NOWHERE NEAR WHAT WE SAW WITH SANDY (which had 6-10' of flooding above normally dry ground in many locations and Sandy had a pressure of 940 mbar at landfall, while this storm is only expected to reach 980 mbar (much weaker). https://www.weather.gov/phi See less
