Texas RB Hollywood Smothers listed as probable right before upcoming Tennessee match-up

Injury: AUSTIN, Texas — The latest Southeastern Conference availability report for the Saturday match-up of No.
AUSTIN, Texas — The latest Southeastern Conference availability report for the Saturday match-up of No. 1 Texas versus No. 14 Tennessee was released Friday evening.
The most important name on that report for the Longhorns got an upgrade, with junior running back Hollywood Smothers now listed as probable as Texas prepares to take on the Vols. Smothers had previously been listed as questionable.
With Smothers potentially back in Texas' lineup, the Longhorns are poised for a fully loaded offense with several options at running back, with fifth-year Raleek Brown and freshman Derrek Cooper filling out the rest of the room. Texas has been able to find consistency within the run game, and if Smothers plays, that factor could be the offense's main asset against Tennessee. Smothers served as the lead running back over the first three games of the season, rushing for 198 yards on 41 carries with two touchdowns.
Although it is likely that Smothers will be in action against Tennessee, it is possible that he will take fewer reps on the field in order to remain healthy heading into the rest of the season. Brown and Cooper may take more opportunities, with Brown just behind Smothers with 129 yards and two touchdowns on 31 attempts. Cooper made his debut for Texas with two attempts for six yards against Texas State, before exiting with an ankle injury and returning in the week three contest against UTSA with a performance of 44 yards and a rushing touchdown off of 11 carries.
Sophomore tight end Nick Townsend is still listed as out as he works through a knee injury sustained against Ohio State, leaving the Longhorns to turn to tight ends Emaree Winston and Spencer Shannon, who each received significant playing time in previous games against Ohio State and UTSA, to make up for Townsend's absence. Michigan State transfer Michael Masunas should play a role, too. As well as Townsend, sophomore defensive lineman Justus Terry is out and still recovering from a foot injury sustained during pre-game warmups against the Buckeyes, with defensive back Xavier Filsaime and offensive lineman Jordan Coleman rounding out Texas' list of players out for this week.
Tennessee has five players listed as out for Saturday's game, including tight end Ethan Davis, wide receiver Joakim Dodson, linebacker Jaedon Harmon and defensive back Edrees Farooq, all four of whom had previously suffered season-ending injuries. Running back Javin Gordon and defensive lineman Nathan Robinson are both still listed as questionable, and may end up as game-time decisions tomorrow.
Friday's report is the latest of several SEC reports, each posted daily at around 7:10 p.m. CT. The final report will be released 90 minutes prior to kickoff on gamedays.
