Colorado benches quarterback Julian Lewis after rough first half at Baylor
Summary
Pick/market: At least for now, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has pulled the plug on second-year quarterback Julian Lewis.
At least for now, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has pulled the plug on second-year quarterback Julian Lewis. After throwing for only 75 yards and taking two inopportune sacks in the first half of Saturday's Big 12 opener at Baylor, Lewis was benched in favor of Utah transfer Isaac Wilson to begin the second half. Wilson saw some action in Colorado's Week 2 win over Weber State but has yet to see meaningful snaps this year. Lewis, who turned 19 years old earlier this week, has struggled in all three of Colorado's road games this season. At Northwestern last week, he threw his first two career interceptions, and he didn't exactly turn a page in the first half at Baylor. He appeared hesitant to throw downfield and often held on to the ball for too long.  As of this writing, Colorado trails Baylor 13-3 in the third quarter. The Buffs' offense has so far totaled 213 yards, including 161 through the air. Wide receiver Joseph Williams had 49 of those on a first-quarter pass to Quanell Farrakhan Jr.
