Notes and observations from KU football's open practice on Satuday
Summary
Ballard limited mobility game manager; staff inexcusable for not developing QB better than him; McComb saw opportunity elsewhere.
Following years of inconsistency and turnovers at big moments from JD6, Ballard with AK coaching can surely be a better game manager. But you can't really afford to have a game manager QB with limited mobility if you don't have the roster around him to be playing with a lead. In every Big 12 game the other team will have a more talented QB making it an uphill battle to get to 6 wins. The staff going all in on JD6 despite injuries and poor play and then not finding or developing a QB better than Ballard this year is absolutely inexcusable. David McComb probably made the right call. He saw that he could make the throws and plays that Ballard can't but that other things were more valued by the staff and he wouldn't get an opportunity.
