Heupel should not be on the hot seat currently. However, the fans were going to give him a very short leash after last year’s disaster of an 8-5 season. Heupel seemed to have been totally onboard with rolling dice on a judge making a ruling that everyone and their brother knew was not going to happen and if that didn’t work out, a true freshman and sophomore with virtually zero playing time would be the “fallback”….. I’m of the position that he has to make Brandon work and Brandon has to show flashes this year against SEC teams in order for fans to “stomach” an 8-4 type season. The issue here for Heupel is can’t really blame youth at QB as an excuse for shortcomings because 1- he specifically chose this path and 2- he refused to play the current backup QB significant minutes in the last 3rd of the season last year. Had he known Gmac likely doesn’t have the stuff, he very much likely doesn’t roll the dice going into Portal season that starting a true freshman is the fallback option. I’ll give Heupel a lot of leeway but the minute he starts blaming youth at QB for losses, he’ll lose me. He chose this path and now he has to live with it.
