More than one thing can be true at once
Summary
Pick/market: On one hand, Ohio State is still at or near the top of the odds to win the natty.
On one hand, Ohio State is still at or near the top of the odds to win the natty. Even impartial observers (Josh Pate, Cover 3 podcast guys, and Vegas oddsmakers, amongst others) still say Ohio State is the best team in the land or one of the top 2-3). On the other hand, we see the team has some flaws and deficiencies they need to fix as we get into this brutal stretch on the schedule. Mainly the issue is defense not being able to get off the field and the front seven getting pushed around too easily. That said, the top of college football has flsttened out considerably. NiL and the portal have created parity. Super teams are a thing of the past. There are not going to be anymore 2019 LSU’s or the Saban type Bama teams. For Ohio State and the rest of the top 15-20 teams, how this plays out depends on who best fixes their flaws between now and the end of the season. Who peaks at the right time. Ole Miss peaked last weekend and now it looks like they were paper tigers running on emotion for one big game. Our last three national title teams have all had major early season flaws. 2024 had some at the end of the season too. But they peaked when it mattered most. I still have a lot of faith in these Buckeyes. Winning a natty takes some lucky bounces and a few calls going your way, but our Buckeyes have just as much of a chance to win it as anyone .
