Snap count: South Carolina vs. Alabama
Summary
Pick/market: For the second straight week, South Carolina lost an SEC game, this one by a 49-18 score against Alabama.
For the second straight week, South Carolina lost an SEC game, this one by a 49-18 score against Alabama. The Gamecocks (2-2, 0-2) were crushed in the first half and it was never really a contest after a pick-6 by the Crimson Tide (4-0, 2-0) with 2:20 remaining in the second quarter. Sixth-year head coach Shane Beamer shortened his bench in some ways with some notable players seeing considerably less playing time than usual. But it didn't make much difference in the outcome. Here's a look at the breakdown of snaps and some notes at the bottom. OFFENSE Quarterback LaNorris Sellers: 69 Cutter Woods: 6 Running back Isaiah Augustave: 9 Christian Clark: 3 Jabree Coleman: 7 Matt Fuller: 57 Jawarn Howell: 1 Wide receiver Mazeo Bennett Jr.: 42 DJ Black: 35 Malik Clark: 9 Nyck Harbor: 55 Donovan Murph: 27 Sequel Patterson: Vicari Swain: 1 Nitro Tuggle: 46 Tight end Maurice Brown II: 19 Max Drag: 13 Brady Hunt: 43 Mike Tyler: 6 Offensive line Dayne Arnett: 6 Darius Gray: 69 Nolan Hay: 65 Carter Miller: 75 Ebubedike Nnabugwu: 10 Jacarrius Peak: 52 Emmanuel Poku: 58 Hank Purvis: 17 Shedrick Sarratt Jr.: 23 Seth Smith: 2 DEFENSE Defensive line Anthony Addison: 32 NoahClark: 30 Kelby Collins: 7 Jaquavious Dodd: 1 Tomiwa Durojaiye: 49 Aiden Harris: 4 Caleb Herring: 19 Troy Pikes: 19 Dylan Stewart: 29 JordanThomas: 15 Julian Walker: 34 Linebacker Fred Johnson: 59 Shawn Murphy: 1 Justin Okoronkwo: 59 Jamian Risher Jr.: 2 Defensive back David Bucey: 29 Judge Collier: 58 J'Zavien Currence: 7 Kendall Daniels Jr.: 23 Gerald Kilgore: 12 Quay'sheed Scott: 42 Vicari Swain: 59 Peyton Williams: 59 TAKEAWAYS -- The first thing that jumps off the page is the bench was shortened at linebacker. Murphy played just one snap while the duo of Johnson and Okoronkwo both played all 59 defensive snaps. Risher also played a couple. -- Currence was on the field early, as usual, but didn't play much after being beaten deep for a pair of first half touchdowns. -- On the offensive side Gray started at right tackle with Peak at left tackle, which meant that Arnett was removed from a starting spot. After not playing a snap last week, Sarratt got back into the mix and played 23 total snaps with 20 being at left tackle and three at right tackle. Miller, who returned to action as the starting center after being out for the last six quarters due to a back injury, is the only player on offense who was on the field for every snap. He also graded out the highest of any of South Carolina's offensive players, according to Pro Football Focus. -- Swain, who played every snap on defense, also had one snap on offense. He was on the field for the ill-fated fourth-and-2 tight end sneak by Hunt that netted zero yards on the second drive of the game. -- Stewart more than doubled his total number of snaps from last week playing 29 in the loss. The Gamecocks had 11 missed tackles in the game and Stewart was credited with two of them. -- Walker made his first start of the season and played 34 snaps in total, which is three less than he played last week against Mississippi State.
