The No. 23 ranked Texas A&M Aggies suffered their second straight SEC conference loss of the 2026 season on Saturday, as the Aggies fall to LSU 35-6 at Tiger Stadium.
LSU out gained Texas A&M 506 yards to 197 yards offensively and the Tigers defensive line proved to be too much for the Aggies offensive line as they sacked quarterback Marcel Reed 4 times and had two quarterback hurries. As we evaluate today's game, Gigem247 takes a look at the 3 biggest concerns coming out of the loss to No. 10 LSU which could potentially become a theme for the remainder of the season.
Here are 3 biggest concerns following the loss to LSU.
1. The Texas A&M Passing Game and QB Marcel Reed
We talked about it a week ago and again this week the Aggies passing game was almost non-existent in tonight's game against the number 10 ranked LSU Tigers. Quarterback Marcel Reed was 9-22 passing for 94 yards and 1 interception on the night. The LSU defense did get to Reed 4 times for sacks on the night but the issues look to go beyond the offensive line protection as Reed had many plays in tonight's matchup where he had a clean pocket but was unable to go through his progressions. As the Aggies continue on through their conference schedule, the offensive production will come down to one thing, the play of Marcel Reed and as of now the Aggies veteran signal caller has not been able to find his stride and won't have time to wait on consistency as the SEC schedule continues next week.
2. Defensive Breakdowns in the Texas A&M secondary
While the Aggies defensive front played a significantly better game specifically in the run game this week compared to the week prior, defensive breakdowns in the secondary continue to be the Achilles heal to this years Texas A&M defense. The Aggies gave up 6 plays of 20 plus yards highlighted by a 57 yard touchdown pass in the third quarter on 4th and one which was the result of a big coverage bust. This has now been a reoccurring theme the last three weeks and remains a major concern going throughout the rest of the season.
3. Lack of Pass Rush
Texas A&M's defensive line had questions coming into the season following the loss of Cashius Howell and how the pass rush would be this season. While the addition of Anto Saka and emergence of Marco Jones showed promise to bolster the Aggies ability to get to the quarterback going into the season, the results on the field have not met expectations. The Aggies had no sacks in tonight's matchup with LSU and only had two quarterback hurries. The defensive staff had hopes of getting home with just four pass rushers when asked prior to the season but the lack of pressure with just four pass rushers shows a need for improvement. The Aggies could fix this by blitzing and sending more at the quarterback but with the issues in the secondary it makes things more difficult. This will be a theme to monitor as Texas A&M plays Arkansas at home next Saturday and could continue to be a concern throughout the remainder of the season.
