There is exactly one defensive scheme that we utilized over that time timeframe that wasn’t complete dogshit. Say it with me: 3-3-5. Casteel used it with great success. Holgs came and ditched it with eFore and Patterson. Both of those defenses were trash. Then Gibby came and brought back the 3-3-5 and poof! By 2015 we had one of the best units in the Big 12. We are never going to have the beef on the d line to be successful in a 4 down front. There aren’t any more Still brothers hanging out 15 minutes away to be snapped up. The emphasis needs to be on getting as many athletes and speed as possible on the field to make up for the lack of size up front. It’s the only thing that sustainably accomplished anything defensively in the last 25 years here.
