Fresno State is not poorly coached, but more an issue with play calling, in my opinion. On offense, our rb's seem to always do better on the perimeter, running zone, as compared to between the gaps. But then the receivers are asked to catch short passes and turn up field, using their speed. Or than the random 1 route that they ask a wr to run a 40+ yard go as the only option. I would rather use the speed for running backs on stretch/zone run scheme and wrs to run pro routes to get open as compared speed after the catch concept. The other odd ball thing is, we use our tight ends near the sidelines, as compared to down the middle that is usally open. Defense is good to great most the time, just has issues from the 4-2-5 base. Most of the time aganist Rice, we still had a light box, never truly bringing a safety down as a spy. Asking our linebackers to some how have to match up the whole game with a faster qb. Like I've said before, I would much rather see a "Multiple" base, that we set before the game that best matches the opposing offense. Not really about being poorly coached, but more so the egos of the coaching staff. Thinking their $hit don't stink and waiting until half time to finally make some adjustments. You use a script to see what the defense is giving you, but the script is so bad that we tend to go 3 and out early and get no true information from it. Stop doing what hasn't worked, continue to do what has, and finally score in the 1st quarter to create early momentum that carries through out the rest of the game.
