The 4th down decision
Summary
QB: They had gotten a stop the series earlier with I soured play but for the personal foul roughing the passer.
W29thSt said... (original post) Did anyone trust the D to get a stop there? It was a miracle that we got the few stops we did last night. This is just hindsight, the real problem ... show more Yes. They had gotten a stop the series earlier with I soured play but for the personal foul roughing the passer. They also were making Oregon earn it at times. You have a back up QB with a hostile crowd at home and a defense that has already almost had an interception but for a fumble and had them stopped but for a PF. Pin them deep and see what your defense can do. There were SEVEN fn minutes left. What he did is what he always does because it is who he is. He bet on himself. Same reason we always take the kickoff. Same reason he goes for it more than most coaches. He believes he’s a genius because it’s all he was told as a younger coach coming up and he believes his offense can beat the defense. I don’t understand how this isn’t obvious to everyone. It’s been his MO since he became a head coach. “He don’t trust his defense”? No. He didn’t even think that far. He thought I’m the $110 million super genius I can get us this first down. It’s happened a lot. Remember the field goal last week? Did he not trust the defense then? No. He just bets on himself to the detriment of good head coaching.
