What they were saying about Arkansas' 34-6 win over Tulsa
Summary
Pick/market: Arkansas improved to 2-2 (0-1 SEC) on Saturday night with 34-6 win over Tulsa (3-1, 0-0 American).
Arkansas improved to 2-2 (0-1 SEC) on Saturday night with 34-6 win over Tulsa (3-1, 0-0 American). It was the most complete game the Razorbacks had played all year as the defense nearly pitched a shutout, and the offense looked much better, scoring a season-high 34 points.
The story of the night, though, was senior wideout Chris Marshall. Marshall was targeted 12 times and hauled in nine of them for 195 yards and a touchdown. He had four catches of at least 20 yards, including a 44-yarder and a 50-yarder. The next closest Arkansas receiver to Marshall in yardage was Jaden Platt, who reeled in three catches for 36 yards.
"Phenomenal," Ryan Silverfield said after the win. "I joked around on third down, let's just throw the ball to him. That was the play call. But no, listen, he's been tremendous. He's done a great job of finding ways to get open, making the tough catches."
The 195 yards ranks seventh in Arkansas history as far as single-game performances go. Marshall is also the eighth pass catcher in Razorback history to record a 100-yard performance against Tulsa specifically.
Tulsa was out-gained by 200 yards (441-241), and the Arkansas offense held the ball for nearly 38 minutes in a very dominant and complete performance in front of a solid home crowd. KJ Jackson had his best outing of the season by far, finishing 24 of 36 passing for 309 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also ran 13 times for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
One area where there are still some questions and concerns is in the rushing attack. The Razorbacks continued to struggle running the ball consistently, finishing the night with 43 carries for 132 yards across six ball carriers. Cam Settles was the clear RB1 this week, getting 11 carries for 40 yards but also catching all six of his targets for 20 yards through the air. Braylen Russell was right behind Settles with nine carries for 30 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, Ben Bogle had a massive individual performance as he picked up four tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup. Christian Harrison and Ja'Quavion Smith led the Razorbacks with eight tackles each.
