RE Florida's Success: "It's All Buster Faulkner"
Summary
Pick/market: That quoted statement in my thread title, in various forms, is a common theme I see on all other SEC forums, and it's as comical as it is obtuse.
That quoted statement in my thread title, in various forms, is a common theme I see on all other SEC forums, and it's as comical as it is obtuse. Faulkner is the greatest OC I've seen in my time as a Gator, and it's not even close. But to pretend like all the credit for UF being 4-0 goes to Faulker and that we'd magically suck without him is hilarious.
First, Sumrall should get credit simply by virtue of securing Faulkner as our OC, which is itself an accomplishment. Faulkner didn't need to leave Georgia Tech, and he didn't need to leave Georgia Tech for Florida. But he did, and that is 100% because of Sumrall.
More importantly, do the people saying this forget what Sumrall did before Florida? He was good at Troy, and he was even better at Tulane. Faulkner wasn't there to lead Tulane to a CFP. That was Sumrall. In the event Faulkner leaves UF, for whatever reason, we'll be just fine.
And I also haven't touched on the other offensive staff who also earned their respective share of credit for their position groups. Craddock, Traut, Harris, etc. have done an excellent job thus far in enabling their guys to be able to perform in Faulkner's offensive scheme. But, again, ultimately, there's credit to Sumrall for this as well because he put together the staff, the staff, in turn, have bought into Sumrall's vision, and the players, in turn, have bought into the staff. It's a collective team effort, but make no mistake, Sumrall is the captain of this ship. And this ship isn't sinking just because the first mate might one day leave to captain his own ship.
Hey, speaking of ships, what's a pirate's worst fear? A sunken chest with no booty.
