What I wrote last year in-between statements because of how it was described and explained to me: It has been described to me that there are many ways to finance things and manage money in college athletics and that in this situation, it would get figured out. While a transition would be expensive and create dead money on the books, that dead money is not a lump sum in one singular moment - but instead monthly payments stretched out over the duration of existing contracts. There is also the cost of a potential buyout to hire a new coach plus the new money of new contracts on the books. It would be an ultra-expensive endeavor due to the current contract of Norvell, plus the sum of all of the parts of the operation, but it is not something that FSU is incapable of doing. Is there hesitation due to cost? Yes, I think it is fair to describe it that way. FSU has spent a ton of money on athletics, and specifically football, in recent years - contracts, capital projects, roster, etc. Ultimately though, it isn't a roadblock if the situation reaches the point of having to be done.
