For the Hundredth Time
Summary
Pick/market: I feel like the term "dual-threat" is the most misunderstood term in football.
I feel like the term "dual-threat" is the most misunderstood term in football. Dual means "consisting of two parts." Threat means "condition that could cause trouble or damage." Avery Johnson IS a dual-threat. He IS the definition of dual-threat. He can do things with his legs that not many QBs can do. He has a powerful arm; he has arm talent. So what is the problem? His problem has always been mental. His freshman year, he was natural, instinctual, and played free and fearless. He has not been that player since that Texas Tech game. His clock is too slow. He thinks too much. His decision making is too slow. He's inconsistent. He needs to return to that player that reacted versus thinks. If you are questioning his physical tools, I don't know what to tell you? Does he deserve the criticism? He sure does. He's made mistakes. But our fanbase is heaping way too much of the blame on him. This program has a below 0.500 record without him. KSU has failed him by not placing enough talent around him. He should have been the starter after the Tech game in 2023. He was poorly coached for the past two years. For those crucifying HCCK7, look at T A&M's offense and Marcel Reed's play so far this year. Be mad. It was a crap game and crap performance. The 2025, 2026, and 2027 classes are going to improve our talent. 2028 could be a historic class. Everyone is screaming about how we failed in the portal on the OL and DL. Go look at the lists. Who were we going to bring in? Jordan Seaton? We are not competing against 50-60 million dollar roster teams for players. MAC was not worth the money he wanted. We had too many holes to fill to splurge on a very few players. My bigger concern than the loss is how do we respond? Flush it. Move on.
