What Coach Prime said about injured Buffs DeAndre Moore Jr., Tyler Martinez
Summary
Injury: Two of Colorado's most important players went down with injuries in Saturday's disheartening loss at Baylor.
Two of Colorado's most important players went down with injuries in Saturday's disheartening loss at Baylor. On offense, wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. suffered what appeared to be a head injury when a Baylor defender knocked him down on a crossing route in the second quarter. Moore was down on the turf for an extended period of time before leaving on his own power.  After the game, head coach Deion Sanders shared an encouraging update on the Buffs' second-leading receiver. "He's doing good," Sanders said, per BuffsTV. "I saw him on the sideline, cheering up his teammates and rooting them on, and he's a warrior. He was down there like, 'You're not bringing out a cart. You're not bringing out a cart. I'm getting up, walking off.' I admire that from him so much. That's why he has an 'L' on the shirt. He's one of the leaders amongst the team." Coach Prime added that while he didn't have confirmation, he believes Moore suffered a head injury. Moore caught 15 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown in Colorado's first three games. Colorado was already without fellow wide receivers Danny Scudero and Hykeem Williams, whose injury return timelines remain unclear. Expect Quanell Farrakhan Jr., who had 117 receiving yards on Saturday, Quentin Gibson, Kam Perry and Ernest Campbell to see increased opportunities if Scudero and Moore remain out. Another critical leader, linebacker Tyler Martinez was seen in a walking boot and crutches during the second half. The exact nature and timeline for his injury have yet to be revealed. "He's down," Sanders said. "I don't know about for the season, but he's down. First thing I think about when I see a guy like that: Can he get a medical (extra year of eligibility)? That's the first thing I think, because he's so valuable to the team, and I don't want him to go out like that." Including his two on Saturday, Martinez ranks fifth on the team with 17 tackles and was recently rewarded with a 'D' (Dawg) patch. "It's hard losing Tyler," fellow linebacker Liona Lefau said. "He's a great player, obviously a great leader. It's gonna be rough moving forward, but we gotta do what we gotta do. We're just trying to win as a team. But I love my boy Tyler." Martinez's injury opens the door for Carson Crawford, Rodney Colton Jr. and walk-on Gage Goldberg to potentially see more action. Goldberg played four defensive snaps late in the game and recorded one tackle.
