North Campus Marriott Courtyard closing
Summary
OL/DL: "The Courtyard by Marriott Newark University of Delaware is not taking room reservations beyond mid-November.
"The Courtyard by Marriott Newark University of Delaware is not taking room reservations beyond mid-November. The hotel on the north edge of the University of Delaware Newark campus is owned by UD and is managed by Harrisburg, PA-based Shaner Hotels. The hotel will remain open for UD Parents Weekend." https://www.delawarebusinessnow.com/new ... 200b1.html Not sure many Hens football fans actually stayed in the Marriott (not close to the sports complex), but it is closing soon. Article mentions Parents Weekend, but mid-November would also include Homecoming. Clayton Hall used to have a lot more meetings and the hotel got business from those forums, but with the Hyatt on Main Street (they have to be happy) providing better access to the Main Street restaurants, they aren't a lot of reasons to stay at the Courtyard. Not clearly stated in the article is that UD opted not to renew the school's hotel/educational cooperation agreement with the Courtyard...it served as UD's training site for the UD hospitality and event business management program and includes a classroom. UD's hospitality program was popular...and then COVID hit. Applications dropped dramatically and the program has been having trouble getting enough students. Heck, UD hasn't been able to staff it's Vita Nova (located in the Tribant Center off Main Street) program well enough to open the tapas bar. Tapas food at the bar was a fantastic option for those wanting a less formal and time consuming meal. Still recommend the full service experience at Vita Nova...can't beat the price for a very nice meal (awesome wine cellar). Plenty of other hotels (and ABnBs) closer to town/UD's athletic facilities for our future out-of-area Blue Hens sports fans.
