Doc's value to Marshall was consistency but Marshall would have always been a middle of the road CUSA team with a surprise year here and there. Gibson has yet to show he can even be a middle of the road SBC coach. Huff didn't want to be here, any deal that would have kept him here would have been temporary at best, no more than a year. I'm ok that each moved on. What Marshall did after that is the problem. We did not make the best hire, the decision makers wanted the 304 boy. If you could find someone who can coach and wants to be here, that's the sweet spot. But the powers that be seem to prefer the latter to the detriment of the former. Yeah, I agree with that and it's my main point. Even if Gibson were a great coach and had us winning conference titles or competing for the playoff, why would anybody think he'd want to stay here? Just because he's from Boone County? He spent most of his career at WVU or NC State. If either of those jobs came open and wanted him, he'd be gone to there in a heartbeat. I'm not defending the way Huff left, but I feared we would overcorrect because we couldn't handle the perceived slight he gave us. And unfortunately I think that's exactly what happened. The powers that be were a bunch of overly emotional men who got way too worked up about him leaving and crawled back to a good ol WV boy that nobody else thought would be a good head coach.
