The Campbell-PSU fit was always wonky. He's a program builder, not an elite schemer, recruiter, or in-game tactician. He had a perfect fit at ISU because he could win 7-8 games a year and the fans would worship the ground he walks on because ISU is quite literally one of the worst major conference football programs in NCAA history. Ames fans could easily overlook the questionable coaching decisions that would lead to these kinds of losses, PSU fans will not. Right or wrong, PSU fans believe they should be on the same level as the OSUs/Alabamas/Georgias etc. Campbell's entire mantra of not having tangible goals for postseason play or accolades but rather some arbitrary measure of "togetherness" or toughness is directly at odds with what the fans, boosters, and brass think that program should be competing for. I do not foresee a happy ending for this tenure.
