Rewatched CMU, focused on OL, DL and LB
Summary
OL/DL: Here is my weekly rewatch and breaking down of the OL and DL.
Here is my weekly rewatch and breaking down of the OL and DL. I do not know more than anyone on this board but I was a football umpire for years and I was used to watching the OL and DL battles. This is just an honest opinion on what I see. On O, I call wins for driving a guy in the running play or sealing off for a hole to lead a run. A loss is simply getting beat or driven back into the backfield 2 yards. On D, I look for penetration, getting off blocks and making tackles for wins. Losses would be getting sealed off or driven down field.
OFFENSE:
McCoy- 5 wins runs, 2 losses passes- couple of penalties. Was our best run blocker on the night.
Samson-2 wins and 2 losses runs- missed a few guys on stretch plays
Rodriguez- 5 wins and 1 loss runs, 1 loss pass- was very solid
Buchanon- 3 wins runs, 2 losses passes- struggled on screen blocking. Solid game
SJ- 3 wins runs and 1 loss. 1 win and 1 loss pass. Solid game
Congdon- 8 wins runs, 2 losses passes. HAS to start- made a big difference pulling on runs
Merriweather- 2 wins and 1 loss all in Q4 late. Was fine
Cantwell- 2 wins on runs late
--Central Michigan ran very little stunts and twists unlike Wake that gave us trouble. Paris had 2 nice blocks on runs. Very clear to see that Congdon was the best G, no clue why he did not get more snaps the past 3 games. SJ and Max were solid. Merriweather in this game was the better T than Cantwell and to me is OT#3. Lyle and Mallory both missed a block in pass coverage.
DEFENSE:
Lightfoot- 4 wins passes, 3 wins runs- very good game again #1DE for sure
Wilson- 4 wins passes, 2 losses runs- just wasn’t giving the normal effort on runs. Was not as impactful and strong at the point of attack on runs. Not bad just not as good as Wake
Scott- 2 wins passes, 2 wins runs- step in the right direction, lot more there coming I think
Carter- 1 win pass, 1 loss runs
Davis- held his own
Blount- 1 win run before injured on play 4
Scroggins- 1 win pass, 1 win and 1 loss runs
Pickett, #40, #52, #55, #88- all a win on passes
LB and S
Thorton- 3 wins pass blitzes, 1 loss. 2 wins runs, 3 losses- needs to clean it up some
Poyser- 1 win and 1 loss runs
MO- 4 wins and 1 loss in runs- played a good game
Smith-1 win on run
Pruitt- 2 wins passes 1 loss. 3 wins run, 2 losses. Pretty good game. Couple plays struggled getting off blocks and reading the pass play quick enough.
Bonner- 2 wins passes and 2 wins runs- 2nd best LB behind Mo in my eyes this game
