The issue with having 0 aggression in the second half is it isn’t a switch you can turn on and off. Usually in those types of games the lead doesn’t disappear until right before the last drive. If you’ve been running the ball for 5 yards for 3 or 4 straight drives and then ask your receivers to make plays and start pushing the ball down the field when everyone knows what you’re going to do it’s harder. It’s much easier to throw intermediate safer passes when other teams are still guessing what you’re doing. Ya it works until the game it doesn’t. It’s why you don’t typically see the top teams letting off the gas up 2 scores at halftime. Ya a mistake can happen, but it’s much easier to recover with a full quarter left than 2 minutes.
Every drive you throw the defense out there and ask them to make plays is just as risky as calling a pass play. They are getting tired and aren’t getting much of a break if you are going 3 and out while the other team is having 8 or 9 play drives even if they aren’t scoring.
At the end of the day it worked, but it hasn’t always and I think for a guy who is as risk averse as PJ people question why he continues to tempt fate especially with a QB like Drake back there and allegedly the second best WR room since he’s been here? Personally I’m not mad about the win and he shouldn’t have to apologize for it. My concern is why we continue making games 1 score games when we have a QB who has the ability to put games away early. At least try to throw the ball a bit early in the 2nd half when it was working so well in the 1st half. If you go down and score a TD Washington will probably fold instead you let them hang close and were forced to have to make a 51 yard FG to ensure victory.
