As a mid major with a limited budget, coaching hires come down to a couple scenarios. 1. A rehash hire of someone who didn’t win at a larger school with hopes that they can elevate at this level. This seems to be the most popular option and rarely works well imo. 2. You hire an up and comer from a lower division who is a winner. Good option but if successful they will leave quickly. In this case we made a hire of a coach who couldn’t win at a school that has a larger budget, but is still a mid major. I think the next hire needs to be someone who can get above .500 In the W column. I reject the thought process that “this is nmsu football we’re supposed to lose”. If we really thought that, we wouldn’t be here.
