The vast majority of these players play at the Division I FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) level, primarily staying in-state to play for: North Dakota State University (NDSU): Usually features around 30–40 native North Dakotans. University of North Dakota (UND): Usually features around 25–35 native North Dakotans. At the Division I FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) level, the numbers are significantly smaller—typically only 3 to 8 players from North Dakota are on FBS rosters nationwide in a given year.
