Musings from Arledge: Truth is getting harder to ignore
Summary
Injury: The article (but not the video) almost completely ignores the Stephen's hit and the way the team/coach handled it.
The article (but not the video) almost completely ignores the Stephen's hit and the way the team/coach handled it. For many, this play and the response to it were worse than the loss to Oregon. As the adage goes, the fish rots from the head down. LR is the highest paid employee at the University and is essentially unaccountable due to the structure of his contract. Many of the players are recipients of large sums of money and they have an exclusive on campus club. Despite all the talk about accountability and discipline, I see a head coach and a team that are undisciplined and largely unaccountable. Riley did not send Stephens off the filed. In fact, he gave a petulant answer in the press conference about why Stephens was permitted to stay on the sideline ("because he is on the football team.") If an Oregon linebacer had KO'd Maiava, flexe whlie Maiava had involuntary movements indicative of a significant traumatic brain injury, been congratulated by teammates andf allowed to stay on the sideline by Lanning we would all be appropriately up in arms. This was much more than a bad look for the program. It was a new low low low point. I have supported the Trojans since watching the cardiac kids iin 1969. This was the first game where I ever cheered for the Ducks. I look forward to supporting USC once accountability and discipline are restored.
