Summary
Pick/market: Admittedly, I don’t spend much time watching the offensive line.
Admittedly, I don’t spend much time watching the offensive line. All one has to do is watch the games and surmise that the line is not getting the job done in the running game. Is this line somewhat overrated? Maybe. Is anybody besides Knapp really doing a good job on the OL? Could the backs be contributing to the problem? Most likely. Could the boring schematics of the run game be contributing to the problem? Possibly. I believe it’s a combination of all three of these things. Let’s not forget that Jagusah would be a starter, and apparently Augustine was going to be one as well. It is a little surprising that Absher seems to have regressed somewhat to this point in time. Heck, they even tried to make a true tackle in Prescod, I to a guard to cover Absher up. Didn’t/hasn’t worked, at least yet. The bigger problem could be that Absher is struggling, the coaches apparently saw it, yet they have a host of OL at all ages that apparently are not better, at least at this time. Absher and the rest of this line better get better in the next 3-4 weeks. The defense is one of the best ND has had in a long time, but they can’t be asked to “tote the mail” every game. The BYU game will be a brawl, that ND can win without a bunch of offense in my opinion. They will however have to outscore Miami, which means better blocking for the running backs and Carr. Same for the playoffs. Some of those teams will smother their run game unless it improves, and put more pressure on Carr that he is already feeling at times through these first four games.
