RECAP OF SYRACUSE'S LOSS TO PITT Syracuse's house of horrors at Pittsburgh continued as the Orange fell 27-13 Thursday night. With the loss, Syracuse drops to 1-2 (0-2) on the season. Next up is a bye week before playing at UConn on Saturday, October 3rd. It was the 12th straight loss for the Orange at Pitt, where it has not win in a quarter century. The Panthers have won 21 of the last 25 in the series overall.  The game started with some encouraging signs for Syracuse. The defense forced a punt on Pitt's first possession and then offense started to drive, pushing the ball into Panthers territory. The drive would stall there, however. Pitt would take control from there with 17 straight points. The game felt like it was just about over when Syracuse had its best stretch of the night. Ahmad Miller ran it in from a few yards out to trim the lead to 17-7. That was followed by an interception from Davien Kerr and a Shay Barker (he replaced Tripp Woody after Woody badly missed a short field goal) field goal before the end of the half.  After a plethora of penalties, mistakes and missed opportunities, Syracuse trailed by just seven points entering intermission. On top of that, the Orange got the ball to start the third quarter. Momentum was on their side.  Unfortunately, it would flip sides from there. Syracuse went three and out to start the third quarter. Pitt went 76 yards on four running plays immediately afterwards to push the lead to 24-10. Syracuse had a glimmer of hope on its subsequent drive behind Miller running the ball, pushing the ball into Pitt territory. Syracuse called a play action pass to take advantage of Miller's success and the play worked. Umari Hatcher got behind the defense for what should have been an easy touchdown. However, Steve Angeli's pass was under thrown and knocked away.   Syracuse would punt on the drive. Angeli would throw interceptions on back to back possessions before being replaced by Amari Odom midway through the fourth quarter. Syracuse would not seriously threaten in the second half.  Angeli finished the game 13-25 for 161 yards and two interceptions. Ahmad Miller ran for 78 yards on 14 carries and one score. Syracuse had 347 yards of total offense compared to 370 for Pitt. The Orange defense held the Panthers to just 123 passing yards on 10-23 throwing. Pitt did run for 247 yards and averaged over seven yards per carry, however.  Penalties were an issue for Syracuse once again with 10 for 94 yards. Most of those came in the first quarter and a half.  SUPPORT CUSENATION.COM SUBSCRIBE TO CUSENATION TO ACCESS TO VIP ARTICLES AND THE VIP MANLEY ZOO FORUM FOLLOW PUBLISHER MIKE MCALLISTER ON X (FKA TWITTER) FOLLOW CUSENATION ON X (FKA TWITTER) FOLLOW CUSENATION ON INSTAGRAM LIKE/FOLLOW CUSENATION ON FACEBOOK
