Predicting Utah Football's Final Eight Games: Part Two
Summary
Injury: Utah Football had a favorable September schedule, but their November slate is loaded with tough games.
Utah Football had a favorable September schedule, but their November slate is loaded with tough games. The Utes will not only take on their rivals but play two consecutive conference road games and face one of college football's best rushing offenses to close out the regular season. Morgan Scalley's team will have a chance to make history, but it won't be easy. Now that we have some game film on each of the Utes' final few Big 12 opponents, let's predict how each game will play out. We looked at how Utah will fare in their October game slate in part one here.
Week 10: Home vs BYU
Utah and BYU's third-ever Big 12 bout is shaping up to be one of the most epic in the rivalry's history. Big 12 title and college football playoff implications will be on the line as both programs currently look like the conference's top two. Utah has been more dominant than BYU so far but the Cougars are still undefeated. The team down south has two blowout wins, dominating Utah Tech and Colorado State. The Cougars also notched their first conference win, taking down Arizona in Provo. BYU started slow but bounced back with a strong second-half performance to defeat the Wildcats. Bear Bachmeier looks improved, and LJ Martin leads one of the conference's top rushing attacks. BYU's defense also looks elite, with Cade Uluave making an immediate impact. This game is almost always close, and I expect this year to be no different. I think Utah will find a way, with the Rice-Eccles Stadium crowd playing a big part in the Utes biggest win of the year. Morgan Scalley will have his team ready, and this is a must-win game for the Utes. Devon Dampier and the rest of the captains won't let the losing streaks extend to four. With this win, the Utes will move to 8-1.
Week 11: At Arizona
Utah will have very little time to celebrate their big win over BYU as they prepare for what could be their toughest road game of the season. The Wildcats were one of the Big 12's biggest surprises last year and look more than capable of knocking off any of the conference's top teams. Arizona is 3-1, with wins over Northern Arizona, Northern Illinois, and Washington State. The Wildcats fell behind early against the Pac-12's Cougars but got better as the game wore on and won by 10. In their lone loss to BYU, Arizona gave the Cougars a first-half scare and nearly pulled off the upset before struggling in the second half. Noah Fifita is still one of the league's best signal callers, and the offense has talented playmakers throughout. The Wildcats' defense is solid, but with several key defensive backs off to the NFL, they have regressed. The Arizona offensive line has also taken a step back and, while not a bad unit, they are not among the Big 12's best. This game could become a high-scoring bout. Fifita can make the high-level throws that the Utes heavy-man scheme is susceptible to. It's tough to win on the road, and I think Utah will suffer their second loss as the Wildcats win a close one.
Week 12: At TCU
The 8-2 Utes will be right back on the road after their tough loss in Tucson as they travel out to Fort Worth for their first game at TCU since 2009. The former Mountain West Conference members will face off in a huge game for both programs. Utah should still be in the conference title race despite two losses, and the Horned Frogs' head coach Sonny Dykes will need a win as his seat is warmer in Texas. TCU's season got off to a rocky start when they lost to North Carolina in Dublin. The Horned Frogs returned home following the tough loss and took care of business against Grambling and Arkansas State. TCU opened Big 12 play on the road, falling 21-13 to UCF, who started their backup quarterback. The Horned Frogs' starting signal caller Jaden Craig is talented but still adjusting to Power Four football. The former Harvard quarterback has had to carry the TCU offense at times as the run game has been nonexistent. The defense is solid, but can get worn down by the offense's inability to move the ball. Heading into the season, I thought the Utes would fall to the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth, but based on TCU's disappointing start to the year, I think the Utes will win this one. The Horned Frogs have arguably been the Big 12's most disappointing team, and while I expect them to be better at home than on the road, I think Utah will come out on top in their last regular-season road test.
Week 13: Home vs West Virginia
I have the Utes entering Senior Day 9-2, with only the Mountaineers standing in their way of back-to-back 10-win seasons. Utah should also be in the hunt for a spot in the Big 12 title game. With Texas Tech looking vulnerable and the Utes having head-to-head wins over Houston and BYU, a spot in the title game should still be in reach. Last year Utah hammered West Virginia 48-14 in Morgantown, but that feels like a lifetime ago. Rich Rodriguez has the Mountaineers looking much improved early in 2026. West Virginia is 3-1, including an impressive win over Virginia. The Mountaineers' other two wins came against Coastal Carolina and UT Martin. West Virginia had a tough test to open conference play with Oklahoma State coming to town. The Cowboys and Mountaineers were locked in a close one for the first three quarters, but Oklahoma State pulled away late. West Virginia's offense has improved significantly from last year, with Cam Cook as one of the conference's top backs and Michael Hawkins Jr. arguably the league's best rushing quarterback. The pass game is still a work in progress, and the same is true of the Mountaineers' defense. West Virginia should be playing their best football down the stretch, and this will not be a cakewalk for the Utes. So far, Utah is 2-0 in their Big 12 regular-season final games, and this will be the first played in Rice-Eccles Stadium. I think the Mountaineers will hang around early, but Utah should pull away in the second half. Hawkins will have to make a major leap as a passer if the Mountaineers want to win in Salt Lake. I have the Utes finishing the Regular season 10-2 as they secure a spot in the Big 12 title game thanks to tiebreakers.
