The Average FPI Rank for Pac-12 P4 Opponents was #24
Summary
Pick/market: Not every P4 program is in the top 69 of the FPI and outside of WSU most of the Pac-12 was matched up vs top 30 programs.
ncwcoug said... (original post) So you find 2-69 overstated? Or NiL at 1/5 the P-4’s? Seeing Wayshan Parker O’Connor, 2 linebackers, safety, various other position players playing... show more Not every P4 program is in the top 69 of the FPI and outside of WSU most of the Pac-12 was matched up vs top 30 programs. Boise State has struggled to get mid tier P4 programs to schedule them in the non-con so they end up playing the Oregon's and ND of the world which put them as big dogs. WSU losing those players stinks but we are not the only program that loses players. Most P4 programs are losing players to teams liek Miami. Wayshawn followed him RB Coach to Utah after Dickert bolted. Most players who left outside of O'Conner follow coaches who left the program. My point is the Pac-12 isn't losing to bottom tier P4 programs. They are losing to the top programs in the country and that is a much different picture to paint. Every P4 conference outside of the SEC had a losing record vs other P4 conferences. The top G6 programs didn't get as many opportunities vs the P4 as most P4 schools want cupcakes not competitive games. Boise State is probably a top 25 team that had to play on the road vs a top 10 program. JMU didn't have a single P4 matchup. I'm saying the gap isn't the mariana trench like some seem to insinuate and context matters. There is a gap in the P4 just like their is a gap in the G6. If we can put things together we can be in that top 40. Sure maybe we can't win a title but how often were we doing that anyways?
