Here's the formation and concept usage for Week 4 and a few notes:
We used 18 formations, 2 of which were new. We're keeping the formations used tighter than last year. It's almost like RR doesn't feel like he needs to trick anybody with alignment - we're going to line up and run it down your throat even though you've already seen it over and over on tape this season. The 2 new formations were used for a combined 2 plays - they were short yardage looks.
We ran 89 plays, by far the most this season - 15 more than the previous high.
We ran 10 RPOs and Hawkins threw 0 of them. He's now thrown 3/27 RPOs on the season. I've said it before and I'll say it again - the biggest evolution for this offense is Hawkins getting comfortable in the read game - both run reads and pass reads. He's athletic enough and Cook is good enough that it's often a positive gain when he makes the "wrong" read, but he's definitely left some big plays on the field. Throwing a few of these RPOs would also alleviate those of us calling for RR to call more 1st down passes - he is, Hawkins just isn't throwing them.
58 runs to 31 passes (65% run). It would've been a much higher run % if we hadn't gone down by 14.
We absolutley spammed split zone action this game. I called it out earlier this year that we weren't using it anywhere near as much as last year...well here it came with a vengance. Now I'm very curious what RR sees on tape to make it a straight zone dominant game vs a split zone dominant game. It has to be defensive front or personnel related.
